It is so manifest and glaring, the participation of youths in immoderate consumption of alcohol/hard drugs and other substances to their body system, Unmindful of the concomitants of excessive alcohol and hard drugs consumption. Youths desires and gratification towards hard drugs/alcohol and other harmful substances which are identical to the task of damaging the brain and stopping it from working for evermore calls for dire interference in a plot to subdue this widespread consumption of hard drugs/alcohol and tobacco leaves in the society.

The disobliging thoughts that always ensnare youths on their said usefulness of these aforementioned substances have led to havoc and constitution of nuisance in our community. To all appearances, this ideology of “Drugs/Alcohol” is the solution to my problem has brought backwardness and retrogression to our educational system. Long before today youths had engrossed themselves in innovative discourse, today it is either baloney on the ground of hard drugs/alcohol and tobacco leaves for fulfillment, satisfaction or they boast on who consumes more.
They also convene the intrepidity to hurl contemptuousness at the inability of some youths to gladden the idea of hard drugs/alcohol for fulfillment, pleasure or whatever it brings. Hard drugs/alcohol and smoking of Indian hemp is never a thing to be proud of.
Drugs like “DIZZA, TUTOLIN, and TRAMADOL” just to mention a few have great effect on the lives of youths academically which can never be laid too much emphasis on. On the opinion of some drug users; they believe it brings their head in terms with the brain to think fair-mindedly which a false belief of a chronic addict. If the said reasons for taking it are realistic. Then it is ephemeral, and at the end of all it always leaves back casual end result after serving the intended purposes which often amounts to insanity. Large intake of hard drugs/alcohol and smoking of slice putrescent leaves wrapped in a translucent paper, have seriously damaged lives and properties, family, friends and colleagues in the society and country like Nigeria.
Psychologically, it has been proven that users of drugs/alcohol started with the aim of coping with stress and pain. In Kogi state and Nigeria at large today, the high patronage shops that sell these “killers” in disguise record on daily basis seems to be proliferating beyond expectation.
Psychological effect of Drugs/Alcohol:
1. Wild mood effect
2. Confusion
3. Psychological tolerance to drug effects arousing to do ever-increasingamount of alcohol/hard drugs,
That is the reason people still indulge in excessive intake of hard drugs/alcohol after immoral experience.
I am particularly not happy, as people living in Kogi central are also troubled by roguish activities of hard/alcoholic users; this has increasingly given rise to high number of mentally unbalanced youths.

Being a vibrant supporter of “NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN” I can’t fold arms like a bewildered on-looker to watch fellow youths destroy their lives and properties with the assistance of uncontrollable dosage of drugs/alcohol. How would the dream of “NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN” ever come to actuality when youths have taken Drugs/alcohol as liberation?
This is a call to NDLEA, relevant stakeholders and other agency saddled with the responsibilities of curbing this act capable of stripping Nigeria off its remaining credibility.

An Open Letter to Barr Natasha Akpoti | By Jacob Unekwu

Barr Natasha Akpoti
Barr Natasha Akpoti
Towards the tail end of last year, the entire Kogi state was woken to your large insist and cry on the need to revamp the Ajaokuta steel company and in the course of all of this we met a woman with an uncompromising strength, critical concern, courage and true sympathy for a fellow human being.

This did not only made you gain a lot of respect and admiration from several Kogites, but it equally instill in some of us that sense of hope and the large need to continue the struggle and agitation for good governance in Kogi state.
But in the last few days we have been again woken by your new relationship with the Yahaya Bello led government, the same government you accused of “theft”, “power drunkeness”, “Man hunting”, “corruption”, “in industrious”, “shortsightedness”, “deceit” and “totally unrepentant”.
The same government that a couple of memos bearing your name were sent out as regard it’s plot to sell the Ajaokuta steel company and even threatening your life for raising an alarm to this effect.
Suddenly, that same government has changed and become worthy enough to attract your friendship and unalloyed support.
This has made some of us worried and even begin to critically wonder how cheap your support could be and also ask why you fought them in the first place when you knew you were going to eventually join them.
Or probably, it might be a well calculated strategy to attract the attention of the Yayaha Bello led government, or gain cheap popularity.
Be that as it has already become, you have the right to associate and become friend with who ever you deem it fit and no body has any right to question such decision.
But let me remind you that until your new friendship with the Yahaya Bello led government leads to a regular and complete payment of the Kogi state workers salary, then your new friendship are indeed for selfish reasons.
Until it leads to the provision of common basic amenities like drinkable water, electricity, health care centres and many more across the state, then your recent relationship are solely for personal gains and not in the interest of the state or the commoners who you once said you are sympathetically attached to.
Until this recent relationship inculcate in the Yahaya Bello led government the need to become friend and work with every other critic of his government and not just you alone, then your recent romance with the Yahaya Bello led government is still not justified.
And most of all, until your recent relationship with the Yahaya Bello led government leads to the revamping or at least taking of vital steps towards the revamping of the Ajaokuta steel company, then this recent relationship is very questionable, completely suspicious and an indirect betrayer of the Kogi masses who you always claim you represent their interest.
The same people who you clearly stated that your stand is solely to call the attention of the world to their plight.
I will end by saying I have not stop admiring your person, but I pray this recent friendship turns out for the good of Kogi state and not end up tarnishing your image and the great reputation you have built for your self.
But if the later happens, then like our people said “Motor ibira kpé ibira, Ajò Ma tho Okene…”
I wish you well.

Ebiraland

Ebiraland Suffers From Severe Water Scarcity Everyday. See Details

As early as 4 a.m each day, residents of Ebiraland, usually women and children are seen carrying water containers of various shapes and sizes in search of water which is a seasonal scarce commodity in that part of kogi state. The low-land of Inoziomi where the Wells usually doesn’t dry and GRA okene where majority of the rich who could afford to sink boreholes in their houses resides suddenly turns into meccas of some sort as soon as the raining season is over. Women are exploited, the elderly are disrespected, the poor and indigent are assaulted and humiliated, and children are abused and dehumanized in their unrelenting quest to get water, no matter what it takes.
Ebiraland Suffers From Severe Water Scarcity Everyday
It is embarrassing and sad that at this modern times women and children still has to be up as early as possible and trek long distances in search for not even a (treated) portable drinking water but for some dirty Well water. The Irehu waterworks which use to supply water periodically to the residents of Okene and environs has since been neglected, abandoned and reduced to a mere campaign project for winning the votes of the people of the part of the state by desperate and dubious politicians who always fail to fulfil their campaign promise of rehabilitating and resuscitating the waterworks.
Water is a basic necessity of life, its adequate provision should form part of the basic policy of any right thinking government at different levels. We all need it for many activities and purposes, particularly at the domestic front towards a hygienic and healthy living. The settlement pattern and topography of Ebiraland already offered an advantage and makes it easier for all nooks and corners to be reached and connected through water channels, but the government is yet to do anything in this direction.
Despite being a host to dams, Ekuku and Osara, which could supply several million gallons of water per day if effectively and adequately harnessed by the government, many residents of the central senatorial district have been left to continue to suffer and groan helplessly as the problem of water scarcity which had persisted for a very long time and is now further compounded and made worse as a result of population explosion and expansion in Ebiraland. The challenge of water scarcity in Okene and its environs is growing by the day and residents of the high-land of Okene-eba, parts of Idoji, Idozumi, Enyinare, Ihima, Adavi-eba, Obangede, Kuroko, Eika and many parts of Ajaokuta local government area are the worse hit.
Sadly, the elected representatives of the people of kogi central at the national, state and local government levels have not been able to do much in addressing the increasing water needs of the people as many of them are only there for their pockets and not for how they can better the lot or make life more meaningful for their constituency. Although the neglect of water facilities in the central senatorial district didn’t start with the present administration in the state, it is expected that being a son of the soil governor Yahaya Bello would summon the courage and alacrity to do the needful as urgently as possible in a bid to ameliorating the suffering of the people of Ebiraland by designing a simple but enduring water reticulation project to put a permanent end to water troubles in Okene and environs.
